Good Karma Projects: INDIA 2015

From June 1-15, 2015, our first 2-week Documentary Filmmaking bootcamp for women, resulted in a short documentary shot, edited, and produced by our team of students, mentors, and the dedicated efforts of brothers Ankit and Panki Sood, co-founders of Sunshine Himalayan Outfitters, and the many volunteers, who we still call friends. http://www.sunshineadventure.com/about-the-founders.php

After working together in 2008 on the Kullu Project, Ankit Sood invited this filmmaker to return to India, and create a short film that tells the remarkable stories of the Women of Tirthan Valley, and the origins of the Great Himalayan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. http://www.sunshineadventure.com/our-contribution.php

We offered basic instruction in short filmmaking with hands-on experience in video, audio, and photography. We emphasized conducting safe interviews and shooting cinematic landscape scenery. 5 scholarships were given to 4 high school girls from Manali, India, and an elder artist from the USA. Our ages ranged from 14 to 64. It was a truly diverse team and a rich cross-cultural experience for all.

”Nari Shakti: Women Power” has been shown to over 10,000 people throughout the Himalayan Valleys, including rural women, international dignitaries, government officials, and tourists, as well as, presented at the Cannes Film Festival.

The goal of our Media Making Bootcamps is to create a safe space to learn, offer practical instruction and hands-on experience in documentary filmmaking and photography, while doing our best to be of service to those around us. As a direct result, we all grow by sharing our common humanity, and making media that matters.
